CDM Vice-Chair Dr. Ryan Meili voiced his concern with Nova Scotia Health Minister Leo Glavine's opinion piece floating the idea that healthy lifestyle should, on some level, dictate one's access to medical services in Canada. According to Dr. Meili, such a system would be not only inhumane, but would lead to barriers that present sicker, more expensive patients to health care providers, ultimately increasing costs. The focus of Canadian medicare is on combating inequality by providing health care to all, not critizing people for poor choices and blocking access to the services they need.
